The day is split across two three-hour workshops, taking you from the foundations of encaustic in the morning to more experimental mixed-media techniques in the afternoon. Morning — Encaustic Basics

A hands-on introduction to encaustic, covering the medium, tools, safeworking practices, substrates, layering and fusing techniques. Through demonstrations and guided experimentation, you’ll create your own piece while developing the confidence to continue exploring encaustic independently.

Perfect for complete beginners, artists curious about trying a new medium, or anyone wanting to refresh their encaustic foundations.

Afternoon — Encaustic, Mixed Media, Image Transfers & Collage

Take your encaustic practice further by exploring image transfers, collage, embedding and mixed media. Learn how photographs, paper, fabric, botanicals and other materials can be incorporated into wax to create layers of texture, depth and discovery.

After demonstrations of the key techniques, you’ll have plenty of time to experiment and develop your own piece.

Prerequisite: Basic encaustic knowledge or completion of an Encaustic Basics workshop, including the morning session.

Basic tools and materials supplied. Participants are welcome to bring personal materials and imagery to experiment with.Limited places to ensure plenty of individual attention.
