June Stevens Artist
Drawing, Painting, Visual Artist
June began painting later in life, focusing on landscapes and seascapes in an impressionist/realist style. She loves the magical effect of light on our world and aims to share that through her paintings. This year June has been deepening her exploration into abstraction in the search for another level of expressiveness in her art, while conversely revisiting earlier works with different techniques and approaches.
She believes this journey has already influenced her earlier impressionist style with a more loose approach now evident. She now uses palette knife rather than brushes for much of the time and loves the creamy application of paint on either board or canvas. It seems to June that the more she learns about art, and painting in particular, the less she knows! Each new genre, each new tool or technique means another steep learning curve, and then the need to revisit what has gone before to measure where she was, with where she is now. A constantly exciting challenge with nothing ever standing still!
June is fortunate enough to have a light-filled studio overlooking ponds, paddocks and trees. In her studio she is surrounded by earlier works, some unfinished work, paintings that didn’t work at all and attempts at something new and different! You are welcome to visit and experience the studio with June - a real artist’s hideaway in Parkerville.
