Mary Ann Dawson

Mak Mud Studio

Ceramics, Painting, Textiles

Mary Ann Dawson was born in Birmingham England and started drawing in earnest by the age of 9, followed by an interest in painting at age 12 and went on to complete her Diploma in Graphic Design at Perth TAFE by the age of 19.

She later studied Textiles at Carine TAFE and painting as part of the Fine Arts course at South Metropolitan TAFE in Midland with Russell Bell and Ted Drury. Since then she has continued to pursue an interest in drawing, painting, felting, wearable art and most recently ceramics but enjoys turning her hand to any medium that interests her.

Mary Ann is currently in the process of completing a series of paintings based on currency symbols. There is an interesting and vast array of symbols in this vein giving a typographic sense to her paintings with some background influences from street artist Retna. Past involvement has explored recyclable wearable art pieces and the ancient craft of felting. Her current interest in ceramics has opened up a whole new vein of creative expression and challenges and she is very excited to explore ideas that demand more from her, both in form and glaze application. Exploring the world of mud and being curious about ceramics have sent her down the rabbit hole!
