Sylvanup Art

Drawing, Painting, Textiles

I’ve been making things with pleasure all my life! My abiding love has been with watercolour which has been an intriguing challenge for decades. I’ve included pastels and charcoal along the way, mixing them now, at times, with pleasing results. I’m enjoying charcoal exercises to loosen me up and during the Open Studios I hope to run a workshop exploring some of these exercises, revealing the potential of charcoal. Fun!! I’ve done some eco dying on paper and I’m looking forward to drawing back into these. Practising the slow sewing aspects of textiles and exploring the symbolic side of fabrics and threads - and also, thinking about, and teaching design elements in textile art - have inspired me this year.

Our trip to Spain and England mid-year will be a great source of ideas. We are hiking through the Cotswolds to enjoy the soft, calming manicured landscapes (so different from Australian landscapes!) at a slower pace. It is such a pleasure to welcome visitors to my studio each year to share our creative journeys and to encourage each other. There is so much to celebrate around us: patterns, colours and shapes, the sobering of the enormous to the intriguing minuscule, memories of good times and spaces, the changing seasons and light, textures and exploring details….I hope my work captures some of this for you to enjoy today.

Our beautiful garden will invite you in; enjoy the space over a coffee - bring your lunch!
