Drawing, Painting
Susanne Thomas won her first award for art at Governor Stirling Senior High school, many years ago. That was followed by highest marks in the final year of her Diploma, the same year as the inaugural City of Swan Art ( it was the Shire of Swan in those days) Exhibition held in the then, very new, Centrepoint Shopping centre, where she came second in the open segment for all art students for a painting.
Susanne went on to lecture in Art History, Drawing & Painting at Karratha College of TAFE. For the next decade she exhibited with the other arts instructors at the college, in the Pilbara Pots & Palettes, several fundraising exhibitions before exhibiting with her ceramicist sister-in-law and the first of her solo exhibitions in Karratha. She won a handful of awards regularly throughout that time and continues to exhibit in art awards throughout the state, most recently a highly commended regional award for a painting in 2023.
Susanne has taught visual arts in a high security prison, Midland Women’s Health Care Place and was OTM’s Western Australia’s “Introduction to Drawing’s” host for tours around Perth City until she increased her focus on her own work and studio, Wit’s End Art Studio, which began in 2013 with her artist daughter, Lucee Blake. There she continues to teach, coach and mentor emerging artists. She enjoys the way art brings people from various backgrounds together and knows that art is good for the mental health of both artists and viewers.
