Robbie makes functional and artistic ceramic works from stoneware clay, using a range of firing methods in oxidation and reduction as well as salt-fire and wood-fire.

In his studio practice he is currently on an intuitive journey exploring carving into the surface of his thrown forms to create expressive organic patterns inspired by those found in the natural environment. The glazes and coloured slips Robbie uses to decorate his work accentuate the carved surfaces and help develop a contrast with the natural clay body.

Robbie currently teaches wheel–throwing at Studio P, Perth Studio Potter’s Club, South of the River Potter’s Club and Tresillian Arts Centre.
